We check paddle dimensions against current USA Pickleball requirements during development and sample review. The paddle length cannot exceed 17 inches, and the combined length and width cannot exceed 24 inches, including the edge guard and butt cap. This helps brands confirm compliance earlier before moving further into production or certification.

We measure paddle surface roughness to review whether the face stays within current USA Pickleball limits. The average roughness must be no greater than 30 µm on Rz readings and 40 µm on Rt readings, with no single data point above 33 µm for Rz or 44 µm for Rt. This is especially important for textured faces, grit finishes, and raw-style surface projects.

We check paddle face and edge guard gloss to make sure the surface is not excessively reflective under current USA Pickleball requirements. The measurement must not exceed 80 GU, and testing is taken at a universal angle of 60 degrees. This is useful for projects using glossy finishes, coated surfaces, or shiny edge guard materials.

We use coefficient of friction testing to review paddle surface characteristics during development. Under current USA Pickleball standards, a paddle passes this test with a maximum kinetic coefficient of friction value of 0.1875 or lower. This gives brands a clearer way to evaluate surface behavior before formal certification submission.

We use in-house testing support to review paddle performance under the current PBCoR framework. PBCoR was added to the updated USA Pickleball equipment standards to characterize paddle power, which makes it especially relevant for newer constructions, foam-based cores, and higher-powered paddle projects.

We check paddle deflection by placing the paddle head across parallel support blocks and keeping the center position properly aligned during testing. A probe is then lowered toward the paddle at a controlled speed of 0.1 inches per minute until a 5.0 lb preload is reached. Based on this method, the average paddle deflection is kept at 0.005 inches or below.
